WHEN IS THE EARLY SIGNING PERIOD?

The National Letter of Intent (NIL) is a binding agreement between a prospective student-athlete and an NLI member collegiate institution.

  • A prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the institution full-time for one academic year.
  • The institution agrees to provide athletics financial aid for one academic year.

The National Letter of Intent (NLI) is a voluntary program for both institutions and student-athletes. Future collegiate student-athletes or parents are not required to sign the NLI and institutions is required to join the NLI program.

For the 2024-25 academic year, the "Early Signing Period" is November 13 - 20, while the "Regular Signing Period" is April 16 - May 21.

As part of a recent settlement involving the NCAA, there are possible future changes in regard to the National Letter of Intent. An elimination of the NIL is being proposed with a new model that brings a player's recruitment to an end. This change will likely take place beginning with the Class of 2026.
